
Qualitative methods are an important part of the evaluation process, but they are difficult to use correctly. Many projects utilizing qualitative methods, also rely on quantitative methods for the bulk of the data collection.

There are several types of qualitative data collection methods. The most common are observation, interviews, and focus groups. Qualitative evaluations may use more than one method depending on the amount of time, team expertise, and funding available.

All qualitative evaluations start with a research question. Qualitative research questions follow the same development process as quantitative questions.
